Before you decide, the questions people always ask
before consultation
Yes. The side cheek is the plane that runs from the cheekbone back toward the ear, so it is where the outline of the face is drawn, and filling it plumply the way the front cheek is filled can make the face look wider. For that reason we work less on adding volume and more on continuing the line, spreading a small amount over a broad area.
If a large amount is placed in the side cheek, that can happen. This area shows its difference far more at a 45-degree view than head-on, so we never decide from a frontal photograph alone. During the examination we check the face from several angles and set the boundary of how far the filler will go before we begin.
Sometimes the cheekbone itself projects while the area just beneath it is hollow and casts a shadow. In that case we do not build the bone up higher; we support the hollow underneath so that the line runs on again. The first step is to separate whether the cheekbone looks prominent because of the bone or because of the hollowing around it.
Swelling is usually at its worst on days two and three and largely settles within a week. It often takes about two weeks to settle completely, so we see you again at that point and judge the result then. If you have an important occasion coming up, we recommend having the treatment at least two weeks beforehand.
We use different amounts on the left and the right to narrow the difference. If the cause is an asymmetry in the bone, however, filler cannot match the two sides completely, and pushing too hard for a match can leave one side looking heavy. We tell you before the treatment how far the difference can be narrowed, and we keep photographs so the two sides can be compared.
