Before you decide, the questions people always ask
before consultation
The lips are one of the areas of the face where swelling shows most. Swelling is at its worst from immediately after the treatment through the first day or two, usually settles within a week, and the shape generally looks settled at around two weeks. If you have an important occasion coming up, we recommend having the treatment at least two weeks beforehand.
Please be sure to tell us beforehand. The irritation of the injections can bring a cold sore back, so if you have a history of them we sometimes start you on preventive medication first. If you currently have a blister or a break in the skin on your lips, we postpone the treatment until it has cleared.
Yes. What makes a result look natural is where the filler is placed rather than how much is used. We look at the balance between the upper and lower lip, the direction of the corners of the mouth, and how much gum shows when you smile. If you show us photos of the look you have in mind, we will go through it with you and separate what is achievable from what is not.
On the day of the treatment your lips are numb and swollen, so it is best to avoid hot food and drinking straws. From the next day most people eat as they normally would. For a few days, do not press or rub your lips, and give lip makeup a rest for about a day.
In the early days a lump is hard to tell apart from swelling, so we often watch it for about two weeks. If a palpable lump is still there after that, or if only one side stands out, it needs to be checked. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be adjusted with a dissolving agent, so please contact us instead of massaging the area yourself.
