The clearest difference is that you know exactly what is in it: the active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a bile acid the body also produces on its own, and it works by breaking down the membrane of fat cells. This product is approved by Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for reducing fat under the chin. Being able to verify both the ingredient and the approved indication is an important standard when choosing a product.
The approved area is under the chin. If we use it anywhere else, we tell you first that this falls outside the approved indication, and we go through what you can reasonably expect from it and what you cannot, separately. Knowing exactly what is being injected and where is where safety begins.
Most people say the burning sensation after the product goes in is stronger than the needle itself. It comes from the fat being broken down, and it can last anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour or so. We apply a numbing cream before starting, and if it becomes too uncomfortable we split the treatment across more than one visit.
Firmness or lumps you can feel where the injections went in are a common part of the course, and they soften over several weeks. What does need to be checked is pain that keeps getting worse, a feeling of heat, or redness that spreads. Please also get in touch if only one side has become unusually hard.
The area under the chin sits close to the salivary glands and nerves, so it can feel uncomfortable while the swelling lasts. Temporary weakness of the muscles around the mouth has been reported in rare cases, so if the corners of your mouth look uneven when you smile or swallowing becomes difficult, please contact us right away.
