Before you decide, the questions people always ask
before consultation
It depends a great deal on the shape of the scar. Broad, saucer-like depressions tend to respond fairly well, while narrow, deeply punched-out types run into limits with this treatment alone, so we combine other methods with it. It is more accurate to see the goal as making the scars less noticeable rather than making them disappear.
These are needles whose sides are sheathed so that radiofrequency is released only from the tip. The heat does not spread across the surface but gathers at a single point deep in the dermis, which suits work on the tissue beneath a scar. We adjust how deep the needles go as we work, matching the depth of each scar.
Because the needles go deeper, redness and swelling can last a little longer. They usually settle within a few days, after which the skin flakes. If scabs form, do not pick them and let them come off on their own — picking can leave pigmentation or create a new scar.
Older scars can be treated as well. That said, if the tissue has hardened over time the response is slower and the number of sessions may increase. The shape and depth matter more than the age of the scar, so we look at it in person and then tell you how far it is realistically possible to go.
The risk rises if your skin tone is on the darker side or if you tend to be left with pigmentation after inflammation. In that case we lower the intensity, leave generous intervals between sessions, and give stricter guidance on sun protection before and after treatment. If you have been left with pigmentation before, please be sure to tell us.
